Umrah Guide

Before You Travel: Preparation & Planning

Begin with a sincere intention (niyyah): make for the sake of Allah.

Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months, and you have the required travel documents and vaccinations.

Pack appropriately: comfortable footwear, Ihram garments (for men), modest dress (for women), a small bag for essential items, and a portable Qur’an app or dua list.

Review the rules of Ihram: understand its restrictions and significance.

Confirm your flights, hotel bookings, and airport/hotel transfers — all should be handled by Talbiyah as part of your package.

Arrival & Entering the State of Ihram

  • At the Miqat (entry point into Ihram) make the Talbiyah:

    “Labbayka Allahumma Umrah…”
This marks the start of your Umrah ritual.

  • Men should wear the two-piece white Ihram; women should wear modest, simple clothing without additional adornment.

  • State your intention clearly, maintain your mindfulness, and treat this state with respect.

Performing the Rituals in Makkah

Tawaf – Seven laps around the Kaaba in Masjid al-Haram:

  • Begin at the Black Stone (Hajar al-Aswad), follow the crowd anticlockwise.

  • After completing Tawaf, perform two rak‘ahs of nafl prayer near Maqam Ibrahim.

  • Drink Zamzam water and make heartfelt duʿās.

Sa’i between Safa & Marwah – Walk or run seven crossings between the two hills:

  • Start at Safa, move to Marwah (one lap), and repeat for seven laps ending at Marwah.

  • Men may walk briskly for first three laps; normal pace after. Women should walk evenly.

Halq or Taqsir – Completing the ritual:

  • After Sa’i, men shave their heads (halq) or trim hair (taqsir); women trim a small portion of hair.
  • This marks the exit from the state of Ihram and the completion of Umrah.

Staying in Madinah & Additional Ziyarah

While many packages focus on Makkah, your journey with Talbiyah often includes travel to Al‑Masjid an‑Nabawi in Madinah:

  • Visit the Rawdah, the Prophet’s ﷺ Masjid, Jannat al-Baqi and other historic sites.

  • Use this opportunity for deeper reflection, Qiyam, and making duʿā in quieter surroundings.

Returning Home – Reflection & Continuity

  • Once you’re back home — reflect on your experience, share your stories, and implement the spiritual lessons you gained.

  • Treat your Umrah as a new beginning: adopt good habits, maintain your connection to Allah, and plan for future pilgrimages if possible.

  • Remember the Prophet’s ﷺ hadith:

“An Umrah performed in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj (with me).”
(Ensure to verify exact wording and authenticity)
